Research project on knowledge-intensive firms, connectivity, and spatial restructuring

Brugger + Partner supported the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as a sparring partner in the international research project on knowledge-intensive firms, connectivity, and spatial restructuring. Conducted under the lead agency process of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the German Research Foundation (DFG), this cross-border initiative between Germany and Switzerland examined the evolving impact of the knowledge economy on spatial development. The project assessed how the 2008 financial crisis influenced spatial patterns in Germany and Switzerland by reconfiguring the location networks of the knowledge economy. The primary goal was to analyse changes in the functional-spatial hierarchy within both countries during and after the crisis, and to derive spatial perspectives and actionable strategies to enhance location promotion and development.
