Study on the environmental impact of raw materials and products for Switzerland
Brugger + Partner, together with the INTEP consulting and research company, conducted a study aimed at reducing the environmental impact associated with the cultivation, extraction, and production of raw materials and products in Switzerland. The study followed a three-step approach: First, a comprehensive literature review assessed 50 raw materials and products for their relevance to the environment, economy, society, and politics, resulting in the prioritisation of 25 key items. Second, these prioritised materials and products were examined in more detail through interviews with industry experts, including an evaluation of environmental policy instruments for their effectiveness and feasibility. This process identified five materials and products with significant reduction potential: gold, coffee, palm oil, soy, and peat. Finally, these materials were analysed in-depth during expert workshops, where actionable approaches were prioritised and refined. The findings, encompassing specific recommendations for action and environmental policy insights, were compiled into a final report.
